About us

April Burmeister is a licensed clinical social worker. She obtained her undergraduate degree in psychology from Clarke University in Dubuque, IA and earned her master of social work degree from Loyola University in Chicago, IL.

April has been practicing since 2005 working with children and families in a variety of community and home settings. Prior to coming to an outpatient setting, April worked as a clinical interventionist for a crisis setting serving children and adolescents demonstrating high risk behaviors in school, community, foster care, and home settings.

April specializes in working with children, adolescents, transitioning youth and young adults, gender dysphoria, LGBTQ+, trauma, and attachment needs populations. She utilizes several treatment modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR-Level One and Two Trained), trauma informed care, and play therapy techniques. Throughout her experience, April feels using a trauma-informed, strength-based perspective facilitates individuals and families in meeting their goals.

While not at work April enjoys spending time with family, reading, traveling, especially to Disney in Florida, indoor volleyball and watching the Packers. She loves outdoor activities including softball, volleyball, spending time on the beach and sprint triathlons.

”I believe in advocating for those in need and either feel they do not have a voice, or their voice has been silenced. I feel gratified when I am able to help my patients achieve individual successes in their therapeutic journey.” – April Burmeister, LCSW
