My experience with Elysian Estates / Parador Real Estate & Development Company and Jay Cortez
My mother was a resident of Elysian Estates from September 2010 to August 2011. During this time period the owner Jean Joseph Cortez (Jay) closed the properties due to “issues” and moved my mother twice. Care was not as promised. Staff is less than professional. A staff member stole cash and my mother’s credit card from her purse. Charges were made to the card and it was up to me to pursue the issue. Jay offered little assistance other than…”she (his employee) is an hourly worker - what can you expect?” We decided to move my mother to another facility. Many requests to return our $2500.00 deposit was made to Jay Cortez and ignored. During this period we discovered an overpayment in rent of $2500.00. Again, requests and documentation proving an overpayment were forwarded to Jay. He finally responded to the request stating he does return deposits. He ignored the overpayment issue. We filed suit in Small Claims Court for $5000.00 and won. Upon filing the judgment at Denton County Court we discovered numerous judgments against Jean Joseph Cortez (Jay). Jay is unethical in his business practices. If you doubt what I am saying feel free to check the public records at Denton County Clerk of Court. Carefully consider your decision to place your loved one at Elysian Estates. I am open to discuss my experiences. Feel free to contact me at Kelly.williamson@yahoo.com
