Established in the fall of 2005, Haley House Bakery Cafe is a non-profit restaurant that offers creative and healthy breakfasts and lunches in a congenial community based setting in Dudley Square. The cafe is a gathering place for non-profit office workers, artists, playwrights, teachers, hairdressers, families, and entrepreneurs among other denizens of the vibrant Dudley Square community. From its melt-in-your-mouth maple walnut scones to its jerk-rubbed chicken grilled cheese sandwich to a Caesar salad tossed with house-made organic croutons to our daily-changing veggie burgers, we focus on food made from scratch without shortcuts.

Run by Didi Emmons (owner of Veggie Planet in Harvard Square and author of two cookbooks) with a staff of excellent passionate cooks, the menu is always evolving, paying homage to the rich culinary traditions in the community. Soups, specials, and desserts change daily. We strive to offer healthful eating and we support sustainable agriculture, buying organic whenever possible and receiving local organic produce from Haley House’s Noonday Farm and The Food Project in Roxbury and Dorchester. We also serve fairly traded coffee and cocoa from Equal Exchange and Thousand Hills of Rwanda. And of course we recycle! The menu reflects the varied food interests of the Dudley Square community (which includes representatives from most of the African diaspora), often with new spins on old classics, and an eye towards healthful eating. Please, come visit us!
