History
The story of Maddy’s Tavern starts way back in the year 1899. This was the year the Madison Coal Company (MCC) started prospecting for coal in what would become the town of Divernon. After boring a hole 380 feet deep, the company decided this would be an extremely profitable mine and set up shop. The following year MCC would open the doors to the most technologically advanced mine in the area.

During construction of the mine, MCC built row after row of family housing followed by company owned stores. The following year would see the beginning of another boom town. Soon Divernon would have its own electric plant, fire station, opera house, and several independent stores and taverns.

The Maddys Tavern is based on the concept of an MCC owned bar. A place where the employees of MCC could trade in their hard earned income for night of fun and booze. Built to feel industrial but welcoming at the same time, and featuring the latest in the technology, Maddys was and still is the best place to be after a hard days labor.
