Coolidge Corner is perhaps the most well known neighborhood of Brookline, MA. Located at the intersection of Beacon Street and Harvard Street, Coolidge Corner is a well kept, bustling center of activity, made up mostly of a mix of local businesses and national chains, with the tracks of the MBTA green line running along the center of Beacon Street. Just a few blocks from Coolidge Corner is the birth place of John F. Kennedy, at 83 Beals Street. Coolidge Corner is also home to the famous Coolidge Corner Theatre, a restored Art Deco movie palace that has been showing movies since 1933. Brookline borders the cities of Boston and Newton. Brookline was first settled by European colonists in the early 1600s and was originally known as Muddy River. Muddy River was originally considered part of Boston until it was incorporated in 1705. Brookline has been known for two stops along the Underground Railroad, The Country Club where both the U.S. Open and Ryder Cup have been held, parts of Boston University, and most notably as the birth place of John F. Kennedy. Today, Brookline is a dynamic community with a mix of urban and suburban living, upscale shopping, recreation, apartments and large estates. It's most accessible centers include Brookline Village, Coolidge Corner, and Washington Square. Brookline is also known for its vibrant Jewish culture including authentic Jewish delicatessens and boutiques.
