The team has added this functionality to the M&T site (only showing on the preview site for review).
There is a new category in Octane for "Blog Authors" This category has two different entry types: Blog Author - Element and Cards. Element would be used to show the author's name with no page, and then Cards would be used for when the author needs a page.
If it will be a bit before author pages are ready, I would use elements and then I can show you how to convert the element to a page so that the article doesn't have to be retagged.
Here is an example of what that would look like on an article page.
