About us

I enjoy and value the long-term relationships I've cultivated with patients over my years of practice. I have worked closely with many patients with diabetes for 25 years or more. I strive to make a connection with my patients. Despite seemingly different backgrounds there are things that we can find in common with everyone, such as our kids, pets, hobbies, work stress, etc. My approach to healthcare can best be described as patient-centered. One of the most questions I ask patients most frequently is, "How can I help you achieve...?" My dedication to my patients goes well beyond my office walls. I stay involved in diabetes research so I can provide the most up-to-date treatment recommendations. I'm a Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology and a former board member of the JDRF, formerly known as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. In addition, I was one of the authors of the original "Medical Care of the Bariatric Surgery Patient," which was first published in 2009 by Endocrine Practice. I also participate in community outreach events for Novant Health, including Physicians Reach Out, which serves our uninsured community. I also am proud to have written a novel. It is a medical thriller titled "E.M.R.," which dives into the personal and technological challenges of being a doctor, and what happens when it goes off the rails. I am married with two beloved daughters and one beloved dog. I keep photos of my dog in my exam rooms and have been happy to discover that at least half my patients are also "dog people." Our mutual love of our pets is a great ice breaker. My hobbies include cycling and ice hockey.
