About us

Dr. Papakostas is a board-certified retina specialist and Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Papakostas specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of vitreoretinal diseases, including conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusions, epiretinal membrane, macular hole, vitreomacular traction, primary and complex retinal detachment, proliferative vitreoretinopathy, pediatric retinal detachments, floaters, vitreous hemorrhage, trauma, endophthalmitis, infectious retinitis and transconjunctival sutureless scleral-fixated intraocular lenses. Dr. Papakostas received his M.D. from National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, School of Medicine. He completed a Research Fellowship at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School followed by Residency, Medical Retina/Research Fellowship and Vitreoretinal Fellowship all at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School. Dr Papakostas has received multiple awards including the prestigious Ronald G. Michels Fellowship Foundation Award, given to the most outstanding retina fellows in the country. During his training at Harvard Dr Papakostas managed the most challenging medical and surgical retinal conditions, including trauma and proliferative vitreoretinopathy. Dr. Papakostas is actively engaged in clinical and basic science research in retinal diseases and has published over 70 peer-reviewed research articles and book chapters. He has presented his research at national and international meetings. Dr. Papakostas serves as scientific reviewer to multiple major ophthalmic journals. Dr. Papakostas is currently accepting new patients.
