About us

Our Mission: Atlantic Animal Hospital has been caring for animals alongside their people since 1972. We aspire to provide outstanding veterinary care for animal companions, and up-to-date information and education for our clients. We believe that caring for a patient has to be a team effort involving veterinary professionals and clients that communicate for the patients best interest. Through this team approach we seek to further the human-animal bond and the veterinarian, client, and companion animal relationship. Our History: In July 2005, Dr. Sukhija purchased Atlantic Animal Hospital. Immediately after joining the team Dr. Sukhija began to implement staff benefits and invest in more advanced technology to better serve our patients. In October of 2005, a full in-house laboratory was added. This single addition gave us the ability to run over 60 blood tests right here in our hospital. From there the renovations and changes really began. In January 2006, we began utilizing electronic medical records (emr). This means we became a paperless facility; all medical records and materials are kept electronically. Then, in October 2006, we moved forward to using all digital radiology. We also added on and began use of a sole purpose surgical suite. Our next step was to create a sole purpose isolation facility. The goal of this facility is to minimize the introduction of disease to other parts of our hospital and to limit the risk of exposure to contagious disease. This facility equips us to care for and hospitalize animals with infectious or contagious diseases, or animals that may have weakened immune systems. From here we moved forward to remodeling each of our examination rooms and renovating our in-house pharmacy and reception area. In November 2006, we were accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association (aaha). The American Animal Hospital Association was founded in 1933 by a group of veterinary professionals. From the beginning aaha has been committed to promoting high-quality standards for the rapidly evolving sector of small animal private practice. Aaha presently serves more than 3,000 hospital members in the US and Canada, and over 36,000 veterinary care providers in North America and overseas. Aaha is respected internationally for its dedication to professional development, for its hospital standards, and for the excellence of its seminar and educational programs. 'Healthy Practices, Healthier Pets' is aaha's goal. Through high-quality education, programs and services, the American Animal Hospital Association helps veterinary practices provide the best in companion animal care. aaha is the only organization that accredits veterinary practices adhering to the highest standards of veterinary care. The purpose of the American Animal Hospital Association is to: -Enhance the abilities of veterinarians to provide quality medical care to companion animals; -Enable veterinarians to successfully conduct their practices and maintain their facilities with high standards of excellence; -Meet the public's needs as they relate to the delivery of small animal veterinary medicine. Being aaha accredited for Atlantic Animal Hospital simply means we seek to further the human-animal bond, that we are organized and focused as a team to provide the best services in the most efficient ways to our clients and most of all it means that that we are dedicated to giving each of our patients the highest quality of care. Since our aaha accreditation, the Atlantic Animal Hospital team plans to continue to progress in our move forward to provide outstanding veterinary care for animal companions, and up-to-date information and education for our clients. It is, again, through this team approach that we seek to further the human-animal bond and the veterinarian, client, and companion animal relationship.
