Dr Austin Fernstrum chose to pursue a career in urology because he finds it gratifying to be able to offer care for conditions that can have such a profound impact on quality of life. Additionally, urology is an exciting field of medicine as it is always at the forefront of technology, providing leading edge treatment for patients. He is gratified working through medical challenges and hearing how the care or treatments have positively influenced his patients’ lives. He credits his mother as a large influence in his career. Working as a first assist for a general surgeon, she introduced Dr Fernstrum to medicine and the operating room.
