Wellness exams are one of the most important preventative measures that we can take to ensure our pets remain healthy. A wellness exam is a comprehensive overview of our pets health including: oral, otoscopic (ear), ophthalmologic (eye), cardiothoracic auscultation (heart and lungs), abdominal palpation, orthopedic and rectal examination.

Sick patient exams can often times help to resolve a variety of medical issues. Many patients suffer from diarrhea, vomiting, coughing, and any other array of clinical signs. These problems can often times can be resolved quickly with supportive care, medications and minimal diagnostics at home. In some cases our pets may need a more extensive diagnostic approach and supportive care in a hospital setting. These decisions can be made as a group to help ensure the safety of your pet.

Vaccinations are the cornerstone of preventative medicine in veterinary medicine. Vaccinations have become increasingly safe and effective over the past years and are an effective way to help prevent such diseases as Rabies, Distemper Virus, Parvo Virus, Leptospirosis and Bordetella (Kennel Cough). Vaccines are also available for Lyme Disease based on the individual risk of your pet.

Diagnostic testing is an important tool for all of our pets. Routine blood work and urine testing helps us to evaluate liver and kidney function, as well as electrolyte abnormalities, urine crystal formation, blood glucose (diabetic monitoring) red and white blood cell counts and a variety of other abnormalities. These tests are frequently used to ensure the health of our geriatric patients and patients on long term medications. Advanced diagnostics such as digital x-ray and ultrasound exams can be performed at a local clinic in your area.

Behavioral counseling/modification is an ever growing area of veterinary medicine. Many methods and medications exist to help our pets deal with anxiety, aggression, inappropriate urination and a variety of other behavioral disorders. Many of these problems are incredibly frustrating to owners and can often times be helped with a wide variety of techniques. Many excellent behavioral specialists exist on Long Island and appropriate recommendations will be made if the problem persists or worsens.

Emergency services are available at many clinics in NY 24 hours a day. Dr. Zawie tries to be available for emergencies to his existing clients and patients. Do not hesitate to call at any time if you feel your pet is having an emergency. If Dr. Zawie is not available please take your pet to the nearest emergency facility.
