With over twenty years of experience in Orthopedic Physical Therapy specializing in manual therapy, pilates rehab and biomechancial foot evaluation, Beth is well suited to treat patients. Often times following injury, inability fosters inactivity and the individual loses function eventually believing he or she must give up a certain activity. This is often not the case. With proper treatment and exercise, function may be restored. An individualized approach to treatment is optimal for success. Should you have a home gym or belong to a fitness club, arrangements can be made for off site visits. Appointments are available Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays by appointment. A manual therapist is a licensed physical therapist that has completed and passed an accredited post-graduate program in manual therapy. Manual therapy curriculums were originally developed and taught in England, Canada, Scandinavia, and Australia. Qualified instructors began teaching extended/residency programs in the US and Canada in the 1980's and several programs achieved post-graduate accreditation in the 1990's. Manual therapists with this background have the highest level of clinical education available in this country in the field of physical therapy. What is Manual Therapy? Manual therapy is a hands on approach to musculo-skeletal/neuro-muscular treatment usually involving soft tissue mobilization and manipulation, joint mobilization and manipulation, based on specific evaluative and diagnostic findings. It usually includes specifically dosed therapeutic exercise prescription as an adjunct to the hands on techniques. Manual therapists may still employ traditional physical therapy modalities of care in addition to their manual therapy training. Why should I consider going to a manual therapist rather than a regular physical therapist? A manual therapist has all the training and expertise of a physical therapist, but a physical therapist does not necessarily have the additional training of a manual therapist. Keep in mind though that P.T.'s with some continuing education background in manual therapy may decide to call themselves manual therapists when they have not completed an accredited program. It is important to make inquiries about the actual credentials of your chosen provider to verify their status. I am a 'P.T.,MMT' by degree.
