About us

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the National Capital Area (BBBSNCA), a 501(c)(3) organization, is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of children and helping them realize their full potential. We do this by creating One-To-One® mentoring relationships between volunteers ("Bigs") and children ("Littles") that ignite the power and promise of youth.
Since 1949, we have operated under the belief that inherent in every child can succeed and thrive in life. Our adult volunteers, known as Bigs, are the backbone of our mission. They provide guidance, support, and friendship to our Littles, empowering them to overcome challenges and reach their full potential. Through our various mentorship programs, we offer a safe and supportive environment for youth to thrive and reach their full potential.
Children participating in our programs are:
- 85% less likely to have contact with juvenile courts
- 70% less likely to initiate drug use
- 64% more likely to achieve higher grades.
