About us

Calvary Chapel of Silver City is a place of worship where anyone is welcome. Prior to 1993, a few couples in Silver City, New Mexico were praying for a Calvary Chapel to be started here in Silver City. They were familiar with the style of Calvary Chapel Albuquerque. In February 1993, 5 or 6 people began meeting on Thursday evenings in the home of Chris and Marsha Christensen where Joseph Gros led a Bible Study. In September of that year, they began holding Sunday meetings in the Agape School and continued the Thursday evening Bible Study. They continued to meet there for 4 years. In January 1998, the church began meeting at the Word of Life building off highway 180 east of town. Land was purchased and activities started toward building a facility for the church. The actual project started in 2000 when a metal building was purchased and now the church of some 300 people is meeting south of town off highway 90.Today, our church has numerous ministries, studies, activities, our own school and a radio station. We are indeed a fellowship and believe that faith in Jesus Christ is relevant, life changing, intellectually defensible and emotionally satisfying.
