About us
Dan Matthews, MD joined Pulmonary Disease Associates in August 2016. He was born and raised in Jackson, TN. He attended Rice University in Houston, TX for his undergraduate degree and earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. He then moved to Nashville, TN where he earned his medical doctorate at Vanderbilt University. After completing medical school, Dr. Matthews completed his Internal Medicine residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As a resident, he was awarded the Ney Award, the Chairman's Award, and the David A. Ontjes Award, which together reflected his commitment to scholarly excellence and to the delivery of high quality care. After completing residency, Dr. Matthews returned to Vanderbilt University where he completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. While a fellow, he did translational and clinical research in chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension. Dr. Matthews is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, and Critical Care Medicine. He is a member of the American College of Chest Physicians. He has a special interest in the care of patients with interstitial lung disease and sarcoidosis. He also serves as Medical Director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit at Greenville Memorial Hospital and co-Medical Director of the Pulmonary Rehabilitation program. He is married to Sarah Matthews and has two sons. He enjoys playing tennis, fishing, and spending time with his family.
