About us

Our journey started in 2004 in Martinsburg WV with a small clinic and was limited to Evaluations and medication management. Over 18 years, we have served thousands of residents of WV and surrounding states and have grown into a multidisciplinary practice with Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Psychologists, and Social workers. We also offer new treatments like rTMS and Ketamine therapy in addition to traditional modalities like medication management and Psychotherapy. We also do Medication-Assisted Treatment for opioid addiction. We take care of patients of all ages with the minimum age being 6 years.

One key difference between our practice and other psychiatric practices is DR Khan's training in Family Medicine and Psychiatry, we also look at any physical reason behind psychiatric symptoms.

We want to thank the people of Eastern Panhandle for trusting us with their mental health.

TMS Therapy

Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

Brain stimulation therapy FDA Approved for Treatment-Resistant Depression Outpatient Procedure, 20 min procedure, approved by most insurance companies, no anesthesia required, the patient can drive to the appointments.

Eastern Panhandle Psychiatry has treated many patients successfully who have stopped taking medications after the procedure but can continue with medications also.

32 to 34 treatments are recommended for the treatment of depression and the first 20 at least have to be Monday thru Friday the next 12 can be spaced out to 2 to 3 per week, some patients take maintenance treatments that are not covered by insurance.

rTMS is also used to treat a lot of psychiatric and other medical conditions like OCD, smoking cessation therapy, PTSD, Anxiety and Panic Attacks, ADHD, etc. However, the FDA doesn’t approve of this and insurance companies also don’t pay for the procedure. You will be monitored weekly or every other week by your provider and changes in the TMS treatment will be done to get the best response from the procedure. rTMS can be repeated for relapse of symptoms after 3 months of the first course of treatment.

Slight discomfort on the scalp during the procedure is the main complaint and the setting in the machine can be adjusted to make the procedure tolerable. Seizures, headaches, tinnitus (ringing in the ears ) can be rare side effects of the procedure. If you have a seizure disorder you might need clearance from your neurologist for the procedure

Having metal like shrapnel in your scalp or metal in your skull is a contraindication to having the procedure.

Please call the office and we will assess to see if this procedure is right for you and verify with your insurance before starting the procedure.

Some insurance companies require co-pay for each procedure so you might be responsible for 32 copays but we can do the financial arrangement.

Ketamine Therapy

Ketamine is an anesthetic that has been used for many years by an anesthesiologist. Ketamine has also been abused as a recreational drug. FDA has approved the use of esketamime for treatment-resistant depression a few years back, thus esketamine has been approved by most insurance companies after the failure of 2 treatments.

Other forms of Ketamine are not approved by the FDA but are in use by many physicians for treatment-resistant depression-like IV ketamine or IM ketamine or intranasal Ketamine, these are not reimbursed by insurance companies but are available at our practice.

Ketamine treatment is in 3 Phases :

1. Phase of treatment is 2 times per week for a month

2. Phase is once a week for a month

3. Phase is once every 2 weeks which can be given as long as the patient feels it helps them.

Ketamine can cause side effects like confusion, changes in blood pressure, hallucinations, increased anxiety which can last for up to 2 hours after the procedure so patients are told not.to drive or do anything that requires them to be active for the rest of the day after the procedure. Patients are monitored for 2 hours after the procedure in our clinic. You are expected to have a driver with you when you come for the treatment or the treatment may be canceled.
