About us

The House of Lights was first founded with the name “Eastern Electric” in 1918 by Herman Holmes, the great-grandfather of the current owners. From then through the mid-century, the business went through several incarnations, eventually becoming the House of Lights. In 1987, the company spun off the electrical from the retail side and the showroom relocated to Scarborough. By 2011, the owners realized they needed to update the showroom to reflect the needs of their new customers, and undertook a complete re-design of the store. After visiting award-winning lighting showrooms around the country, they hired a local architect and design firm, who worked with them to bring to reality the lighting display concepts they visualized. Today, the House of Lights is your complete lighting design source, from concept to implementation, with lighting experts to offer guidance. Please visit us and “see the light!”
