Jacob Kanter, M.D., is a cataract and glaucoma surgeon practicing at the Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins Medicine. Dr. Kanter is a glaucoma specialist who focuses on the diagnosis, treatment and management of all forms of open angle and angle-closure glaucoma. He performs cataract surgery and glaucoma surgery, including both the latest micro invasive glaucoma surgeries (MIGS) and traditional glaucoma surgeries. He also performs clinic-based procedures including selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT), YAG laser capsulotomy and laser peripheral iridotomy.

Dr. Kanter is involved with several clinical trials investigating the latest glaucoma surgeries. He is also researching the role of home tonometry in glaucoma care, which can uncover intraocular pressure fluctuations outside the office and help elucidate how glaucoma progresses. He has a special interest in improving patient-doctor communication, streamlining patients’ experiences with glaucoma surgery, and medical education.
