About us

John J. Walsh IV, MD, is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon at Prisma Health and Clinical Professor of orthopedic surgery at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia. Dr. Walsh previously served as clinic director and staff orthopedic surgeon at Moncrief Army Community Hospital at Fort Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina.

He received his bachelor's degree with a major in biology from the University of Delaware in Newark and his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He completed an orthopedic surgery residency and a transitional internship at Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Gordon, Georgia, and completed his fellowship in hand surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

Dr. Walsh is board-certified in orthopedic surgery and has a certificate of added qualification in surgery of the hand. He has lectured internationally on a broad range of general orthopedic and upper extremity surgical conditions. He is a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and the Christian Medical Society. His primary interests are hand and upper extremity surgery, sports injuries of the hand, complex multitrauma of the upper limb, and reconstructive osteotomies for bone deformity. He is also interested in reconstruction for brachial plexus injuries.
