During a hyperbaric oxygen therapy session, you relax inside a pressurized chamber while breathing in 100% pure oxygen. While you're in the chamber, the air pressure around you is gently increased to two or three times higher than normal. This increase in pressure allows your lungs to absorb much more oxygen than they can under everyday conditions. The oxygen is then carried through your bloodstream, reaching tissues that may be injured, inflamed, or starved of oxygen.
