About us
Joseph M. Abbatematteo, MD, PharmD, is a neurosurgeon in the Department of Neurosurgery at Barrow Neurological Institute.
Dr. Abbatematteo specializes in the surgical treatment of the full spectrum of spinal conditions, such as degenerative conditions, complex spinal deformity, and spinal tumors. He is experienced in various spine surgery techniques, including minimally invasive, open, and hybrid approaches. Dr. Abbatematteo also employs the latest surgical technology for surgical planning and execution, offering patients the benefits of the extensive modern technological advances in the area of spine surgery.
Dr. Abbatematteo earned both his medical degree and a pharmacy degree from the University of Florida in Gainesville. He completed both his neurosurgery residency and an enfolded minimally invasive spine surgery fellowship at Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona.
Dr. Abbatematteo’s research interests lie in adult spinal deformity, spinal degeneration, and metastatic disease to the spine.
