About us
Dr. Kamil W. Nowicki is a cerebrovascular neurosurgeon who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of complex conditions affecting the blood vessels of the brain and spine. He provides expert, compassionate care as an Assistant Professor of Neurological Surgery at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and as a neurosurgeon at Stamford Health, serving patients in both New York and Connecticut.
Dr. Nowicki cares for patients with a wide range of conditions, including cerebral aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) and fistulas, stroke, carotid artery disease, cavernous malformations, idiopathic intracranial hypertension, venous sinus stenosis, and both brain and spinal vascular malformations. He also treats vascular complications related to trauma and bleeding, such as subarachnoid or subdural hemorrhage, and offers minimally invasive diagnostic and treatment options whenever possible.
In addition to his clinical expertise, Dr. Nowicki is actively advancing the field through research. His work has focused on understanding how inflammation contributes to aneurysm formation and rupture, and he is currently leading efforts to develop a blood test to detect aneurysms and assess their risk level. He holds several patents for new treatments and devices, including bioabsorbable metallic alloy coils used to treat vascular lesions, with the goal of making care safer and more effective for patients.
Dr. Nowicki completed his neurosurgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he also undertook an enfolded endovascular fellowship. He then completed a dedicated endovascular fellowship at Yale New Haven Hospital. His training and ongoing research have been recognized nationally, earning awards from the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the American Academy of Neurological Surgery, along with support from the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation.
With every patient, Dr. Nowicki combines leading-edge science with individualized, compassionate care. His goal is to help patients and their families understand their condition, explore the safest and most effective treatment options, and achieve the best possible outcomes.
