Not that anyone should ever get arrested for marijuana possession in Texas, but if you do, you should get Matthew Shrum to represent you. I know I did, and if I hadn't I'm pretty sure I'd be in jail. I thought I was really in for it, and I was afraid that my parents did not have enough money to get me a good lawyer. I had a cousin who was arrested for a DWI and had hired Matt Shrum before, and he got my cousin's charges dropped. My cousin advised me to hire him, based on how his case turned out. He's one of the most best criminal defense attorneys in Austin, my cousin told me.
My cousin is a bit of a bonehead, but you really can't argue with the results of his case. I gave Matt a call and he explained everything I should expect, including my chances. While he said he couldn't guarantee I'd get off, he said that my chances were very good and that the evidence was flimsy at best. And he also said he would do everything he could to gather any evidence in my favor.
As for my marijuana charges, he was able to prove that the testimony of the passenger in my car couldn't be trusted, since he had a prior conviction and was probably just trying to reduce his charges by pinning it on me. I'd say that he handled my case really well and it was over a lot faster than I expected.
My cousin was right after all. He's a great defense attorney, and while I hope I won't need him in the future, I know who to call if I do.
