After the passing of a family member, survivors typically experience tremendous grief and frustration, not completely understanding what to do to resolve various issues their loved one may have left behind. Often various administration is needed for analyzing and handling the assets and debts of the decedent. Some estates are not required to be processed through the court system, while other estates are required to be probated. Some decedents leave a will or trust behind, and others do not. Most of the time family members and those named in estate documents don’t understand the various requirements necessary to manage the decedent’s estate (e.g., appraise assets, resolve creditors’ claims, account to interested parties, obtain court approval for distributing assets by will to the heirs of the estate).
