Everyone wants to be healthy, active, and pain free. This is especially true in the neighborhoods of Hillcrest and Mission Hills. Boasting two medical facilities, a prime location next to Balboa Park with its sports, classes, running and biking trails, three health focused grocery stores, and several gyms, it's little wonder that the community is also home to some of the top clinics and wellness centers in Southern California, such as Function First, Karma Relaxation Spa, Holistic Hands and the Life Within Center.
The Life Within Center, located at1452 University Avenue, is owned and run by Dr. Marc Gottlieb. With a clientele of 600 to 700 people visiting every single week, Dr. Gottlieb's office is one of the largest in all of San Diego County.
Dr. Gottlieb graduated from UCSD with an honors degree in Psychology, and received his doctorate in 1999 from the Palmer College of Chiropractic West in San Jose. He knew he wanted to practice in San Diego, so he quickly returned after graduating and opened his office the same year here in Hillcrest.
With a large parking lot outside, entering the office you walk into a large waiting room. Rows of comfortable padded red chairs line the mottled tan walls as spry and exceptionally cheerful assistant greets you with a smile that lights up the room. The focus of the clinic is on relieving the tensions and dysfunctional compensations modern living places on the body that prevent the body's natural healing processes.
Dr. Gottlieb is a tall and energetic man in his late 30's with a deep tan and athletic build that exudes a confidence and charisma that immediately helps to put you at ease. He specializes in chiropractic medicine and Chiropractic Care for children, automobile accidents/trauma, and athletics.
His office boasts some of the most advanced technology in the field, and the initial visit involves a full orthopedic and neurological examination, consultation, computerized spinal analysis, and x-rays along with state-of-the-art tables and adjusting tools. The equipment is in a private room off to the side, while the main room past the lobby has three adjusting tables in it with a fountain making soothing noises with the soft background music and low lights while common questions and answers scroll across a large flat screen TV.
Taryn D'Agostino has been a patient of Dr. Gottlieb's for several years, since an off-roading accident left her in chronic pain and unable to walk, play music, or even sing, they told me I would never function correctly again. I lived in hell for a couple years. Then I met Dr. Marc and I was functional within a month; I could sing, sleep through the night, had much less pain and my horrible migraines went away.
Despite owning one of the best clinics and having one of the best reputations in all of San Diego, Dr. Gottlieb's center offers one of the lowest per-visit charges, and is willing to work with the clients on costs and is willing to treat them even if they cannot afford insurance. Rather than focusing on the economics, he has built his reputation and business by putting wellness and the client first.

Doing all his adjustments by hand and with activators, he has had an excellent record of success freeing the body of misalignments and nerve interferences. Dr. Gottlieb has seen his work allow the healing of a diversity of issues, from ear infections, cholic, and ADHD in children to acute and chronic repetitive stress injuries in adults that result in symptoms like headaches, sciatica, dizziness, numbness/tingling in the extremities, and insomnia.
Boasting beaches and beautiful weather year-around, San Diego is in the top 90th percentile for overall health according to the national County Health Rankings for 2010. In this environment Dr. Gottlieb has helped push public interest by creating a forum for education and discussion through his community outreach and involvement.
