Indiana attorney Amie Martens is a homegrown attorney who attended Indiana University where she was on the Dean’s List during her entire four years. Even at this stage of her academic career, she knew she had a passion for helping families and standing up for those accused of criminal offenses. She majored in Human Development and Family Studies while minoring in Criminal Justice before graduating with distinction.

She subsequently attended Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis where she was a Certified Intern with the Grand Jury Division. After graduating from law school, she became a Deputy Prosecutor with the Municipal Division of the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office. She remained with the prosecutor’s office for eight years. During her tenure, she was assigned to handle increasingly more serious criminal cases, including felony domestic violence cases and major felonies.
Ms. Martens has extensive experience working with law enforcement in Marion County and the surrounding counties. This background combined with her experience crafting criminal prosecution strategies and obtaining conviction in criminal courts provides a significant advantage to her clients. Her insider knowledge means that she understands how to analyze police reports, forensic testing and other law enforcement documents to identify potential issues and exculpatory facts. Whether she is scrutinizing the evidence offered to support probable cause, a claimed exception to the warrant requirement or the facial sufficiency of a warrent, she understands how to read between the lines.

She represents people from all walks of life charged with crimes ranging the spectrum from minor misdemeanor offenses to severe or violent felonies in both criminal and juvenile court. She staunchly advocates for the rights of individuals accused of criminal offenses, which includes tenaciously protecting the constitutional rights of her clients. She draws on her extensive trial experience and prior collaboration with law enforcement agencies to develop compelling and effective defenses for her clients.

Her unique background also provides a distinct advantage to family law clients facing complex divorce issues. Some of the most difficult and contentious divorce and child custody cases involve issues like chemical dependency of a parent, spousal abuse (domestic violence), allegations of sexual molestation, child abuse or neglect, parents with DUI convictions, parental kidnapping, spousal rape and other complex problems.

Ms. Martens background with the law enforcement and criminal justice systems means she is uniquely qualified to represent individuals whose personal safety or the well-being of their children are threatened by these types of issues. She is equally equipped to represent clients facing false allegations of domestic violence or child molestation when such allegations are used as a sword rather than a shield to gain an advantage in family law cases.

Her trial experience has equipped her to handle the most complicated and fiercely litigated criminal and family law cases. She has the knowledge, skill and experience to develop persuasive legal arguments, investigate crucial facts, devise innovative problem solving strategies and provide effective negotiation and advocacy.
