About us
Michael Growney, M.D., FACOG, FAWM is an Obstetrician-
Gynecologist at Spearfish Clinic, North Avenue.
After a year studying abroad at the American College of
Switzerland in Leysin, Dr. Growney earned his Bachelor of
Arts in Biology and Bachelor of Science in Genetics from the
University of Kansas in Lawrence. He went on to earn his
Doctor of Medicine from the University of Kansas School of
Medicine in Kansas City and Wichita.
Dr. Growney completed his Internship and Residency in
Obstetrics and Gynecology at Greenville Hospital System
in South Carolina, where he served as Administrative Chief
Resident his last year there.
Dr. Growney attained his Board Certification while working for
four years in Rolla, Missouri, before the mountains called him
to Colorado. He practiced for 17 years in Pueblo, Colorado,
serving also in various leadership roles including Chief of Staff
at UCHealth-Parkview. His practice is full-spectrum obstetrics
and gynecology, and he holds additional training certificates
for urinary incontinence procedures, Nexplanon, the Acessa
procedure, and the da Vinci robotic surgical system. His clinical
passions are one-on-one patient education and minimally
invasive surgery.
Born and raised in Atchison, Kansas, Dr. Growney is one of eight
children. His father was a Family Medicine physician who instilled
medical practice as a true calling. Outside of work, Dr. Growney,
his wife and three sons enjoy hiking and camping as a family.
His outdoor adventures have led him to achieve his Fellow of
the Academy of Wilderness Medicine (FAWM), and continues
with his interest in medicine for the outdoors. One of his sons
attended Black Hills State University, which attracted the family
to the Black Hills.
