I would like to share with the readers of this post my thoughts based on the experiences I had while working at Missouri Tooling and Automation (MTA) in Lebanon, Missouri. Sorry folks, but my views don't reveal MTA as squeaky clean as they would like to have you believe. It's all smoke and mirrors. As a fly on the wall, I was in a unique position to fairly critique them without being subjective. I had been under employed by MTA (more than they realized) for a few years, but it didn't take long for me to see through and notice the incredible arrogance, superficiality, narrow-mindedness, and clannishness of much of the workforce and management there, all of about 50-60 people. Honestly, I have never seen so much childish and ignorant behavior before consolidated into one workplace. I was a little taken back by it.
To a large degree, there is a commonality of behavior among many of the workers there. But within that commonality there are also small cliques, that behave at times like a pack of wolves with one or two alpha wolves leading the rest of the unable to think for themselves baby wolves. As an outsider from a different part of the country (and a few have made that very clear), the crude and rude Group Think mentality at MTA stood out like a sore thumb to me. Unless you were considered and accepted as one of their own and one of the good ole boys (and in the words of what one of the alpha wolves proudly told me, his Redneck Mafia), you were treated as a second class citizen, ostracized, put down, belittled, and especially talked about behind your back in spite of your education and/or abilities, which should not have made a difference anyway since no one should be treated that way.
