Adults in the Galax, Virginia, area who have been struggling with opioid addiction can receive personalized outpatient care at New River Comprehensive Treatment Center (CTC). New River CTC provides medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to adults age 18 and older of all genders. MAT is an evidence-based, research-supported method of opioid addiction treatment that includes prescription medication and counseling. When MAT first began to be used in methadone clinics in the United States, methadone was the only medication that was approved for use. Through the decades, other medications have proved to be safe and effective for both short- and long-term use when taken as directed by a qualified healthcare professional.
