About us

Since its founding in 1974, Nirschl Orthopaedic Center (NOC) has been consistently rated one of the top orthopaedic and sports medicine centers in the Washington metropolitan area. Our board certified physicians, with their extensive experience, are at the forefront of treating disorders of the hand, wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip, knee, foot and ankle. Many have graduated from leading fellowship training programs and are regularly named as the area’s top doctors in Norther Virginia and Washingtonian Magazine. The tradition of quality care and innovation originally instilled by our founder, Dr. Robert P. Nirschl, continues today with new treatments in hip preservation surgery, minimally invasive and rapid recovery joint replacements.
At NOC and our physical therapy facilities, Virginia Sports Medicine Institute (located in Arlington and Mclean), we treat all of our patients, including professional and recreational athletes, those with non-athletic injuries, children as well as adults, with uncompromising care, compassion and understanding.
The physicians at the Nirschl Orthopaedic Center believe that physical rehabilitation is an integral part of a successful recovery plan, whether it is the primary treatment or follows a surgical procedure. With this in mind, our physicians work closely with our physical therapy team to design an individualized program so that optimum recovery, return to sports, and pain free activities are achieved as quickly as possible.
Drs. Farshad Adib, Matthew Buchanan, Robert Nirschl, Derek Ochiai, Ronald Paik, Cassie Root, and Clay Wellborn welcome the opportunity to participate in your care.
NOC is conveniently located on the campus of the Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, Virginia and is just minutes away from Washington D.C. and Reagan National Airport.
