Pathology Services, Incorporated, also known as PSI. We are an independent anatomic pathology laboratory, accredited by the College of American Pathologists' Laboratory Accreditation Program, that has been serving the San Francisco Bay Area for almost thirty years. We are proud to support the patients, pathologists, and other staff of the Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in Berkeley and Oakland, the UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital of Oakland, Highland Hospital, Brown & Toland in the East Bay, many private physician practices, and outpatient surgery centers in the community. We are happy to say we are the Alta Bates Medical Group's exclusive pathology laboratory.

We are partnered with Alta Anatomic Pathology Medical Group and Alta East Bay Pathology, also known as AEBP. These are local groups, with strong community ties. AEBP is comprised of eleven pathologists with many sub-specialty areas of training. These board-certified pathologists provide their expertise across all areas of clinical and anatomic pathology, and are easily available to answer questions. We have worked to build our reputation with them and with the community as a friendly but highly professional technical laboratory.

Not only do we have extremely knowledgeable experts, but our staff are all experienced and dedicated, from our administrators, our histotechnologists, certified pathologists' assistants, cytotechnologists, to our technical laboratory assistants.

Our billing is handled through the Orion Rand Medical Billing company. We are able to bill directly to the patient, to the insurance company, to Medicare or Medicaid, or the patient could make other arrangements. Our billing service accepts payment from all major credit cards. Once we receive payment from the patient's primary insurance, we will be happy to submit claims for any secondary insurance if applicable. If there is a problem with payment for reasons of hardship, we will review on a case by case basis.

We supply all of our accounts with specimen transport bags, pathology requisition forms personalized for our clients, specimen containers, 10% Neutral Buffered Formalin solution, and local courier pickup. If misplaced or unavailable for any reason, many of our forms can be found on our website http://www.psiberkeley.com. There are also instructions, if needed, on how to collect and prepare different specimens properly and how to properly fill out the paperwork to avoid delays in service. Our specimens are collected daily from the outpatient surgery centers, hospitals, and physicians offices that we serve. Our trusted courier service is independently contracted and always meets our high standards of service.

We are not a direct care facility, so we never see our patients face to face. Therefore we are more dedicated to providing the best in services and care for our clients and our patients – the real people behind the bar codes.
