My goal is to be able to communicate the overall picture of a patient's diagnosis as it fits into their overall health. Beforehand, I go through their pathology reports, their medical history, anything that might apply to their diagnosis. Then we sit down, and we talk about what steps are necessary, what's recommended, what steps are most appropriate to that individual.
