PostNet in Rita Ranch, Tucson is a company where you should expect to be overcharged. Watch out for your wallet if you use this service! I recently sent two Christmas packages to the Philadelphia area. They were sent FedEx Home Delivery, which I was assured by the PostNet representative was the least expensive way to go. PostNet shipping charges for the first package were $29.94 for 7.15 lbs., and $87.30 for the second package of 16.2 lbs, The second package had to be measured and there was an upcharge for those measurements. I told the sales person that I thought this was extremely high. He said that their charges for shipping are a little more than if you go directly, but their packaging is less expensive. I don't know if even the latter statement is valid, since they also charged me an additional $12.08 for packaging, which seemed excessive. What I do know for a fact is that, when I got home, I priced the same shipping services on the FedEx website. If I had taken the packages to FedEx directly, their charges would have been $16.72 and $49.90, respectively. I believe that a business should be able to make a profit, but it is price gouging, in my opinion, to charge a markup of over $50 more in shipping costs alone. The percentage markup on their shipping services was over 79% on the first package and over 80% on the second! Living in Vail, like it nor not, we have to travel into Tucson for so many of our services, since we seem to be a forgotten segment of AZ. I would strongly recommend you deal directly with the shipping company of your choice rather than allowing this kind of price gouging to continue. I went back to the store and spoke with the owner, but he said he does not control the rates and redirected me to their corporate office. I contacted PostNet corporate and their representative, Brian, stated that they thought the local office was providing a valuable service to the Vail community so they thought the rates were appropriate. I will leave it to the reader of this post to decide just how fair you think their rates are, and how much you are willing to pay for this service. I for one, will never use this service again, and I will pass on my comments to everyone I know.
