A LEGACY AT DEEP CREEK YOU CAN TRUST! The Railey Family History In the early 1900s, C.M. Railey and his logging crew helped clear the trees and debris on what would become the lakebed of Deep Creek Lake. His close involvement with the Pennsylvania Electric Company allowed him to purchase a parcel of land that would be lakeside. After the lake was filled in 1925, the Railey family opened the Lakeside Park & Stone Tavern. The Lakeside Park offered a sandy beach area for visitors to enjoy. Once tourism began to pick up in the 1930s, the Railey family built small cabins on their property at the Lakeside Park to rent out to the 'vacationeers' visiting Deep Creek.
