I let my patients know that we are a team: they are the athlete and I am the coach. I listen to a patient’s concerns and carefully explain my diagnosis. I lay out all the pros and cons of every reasonable treatment option for their condition, and I share my expertise and advice. In the end, the patient gets to make the ultimate decision about what works best for them to meet their goals. What matters most is an improved quality of life for the patient.
