River Queen Artisans in Lambertville is a new gallery that recently opened on Church Street in Lambertville, NJ. While Lambertville is home to many artists and galleries, most of the established galleries are located on Bridge Street and Union Street. Recently, several artists have opened galleries on Church Street (which is a one way street running from Main Street to Union Street). Beside River Queen Artisans, Glenn Harren and Judy Henn have opened galleries on Church Street.
River Queen Artisans Gallery is a co-op gallery, founded by some local artists, and featuring exclusively work by local artists. They have a very eclectic mix of artists, several painters, a sculptor, a furniture maker, two glass artists, and two jewelry designers.
Their exhibits change regularly, and they occasionally host presentations by local artists. (Karen Caldwell, one of the glass artists is doing one in June, for Second Saturday.)
Right now they are featuring works by sculptor Allen Sassman in the front of the gallery, which range from fun to absolutely bizarre. (They have a website, http://www.riverqueenartisans.com, which has a lot of pictures of work from each of the artists associated with the gallery.)
It is a fun place to visit, they welcome browsers, when I have visited, several of the artists were in the store, and they are happy to answer any questions about the work on exhibit, and also put you in touch with any of the other artists, if you have something in mind you want specially created.
All in all, it's definitely worth taking the time to walk up Church Street, to check out River Queen Artisans, and some of the other shops on the street. (If you need a sweet treat, across the street from the River Queen Artisans gallery is Bakers Treat, and they have some fabulous baked goods.)
