About us

Dr. Safdar Ansari joined the Department of Neurology as an Assistant Professor in 2011, after residency and fellowship training in Neurology and Neurocritical care. His primary clinical focus includes staffing the 23-bed state of the art neurocritical care unit (NCCU). In addition to the NCCU, Dr. Ansari covers the Stroke service (Utah stroke network), inpatient and consult Neurology, Tele-Neurology, and outpatient clinic.He has provided site leadership for the University of Utah in their participation in two large multi-center, Phase III clinical trials, CLEAR-III and MISTIE-III, which evaluated novel treatment for intra-cerebral hemorrhage. Dr. Ansari has also been closely involved with developing curriculum for medical students, residents, and fellows on the treatment and management of critically ill patients with neurologic concerns. He is actively involved in medical student education and serves as faculty and director for multiple medical student clerkships. He serves as peer reviewer for the academic journal Neurocritical Care and is an active member of the American Academy of Neurology and the Neurocritical Care Society, where he serves on multiple committees.Dr. Ansari attended medical school at the Aga Khan University in Karachi, Pakistan; where he was also born and spent most of his early school life. He moved to the United States and completed his Neurology residency and Neurocritical Care fellowship at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
