The San Diego Reader is an alternative press newspaper with the second highest circulation paper in the county of San Diego, with a four-week readership of more than 700,000 adults distributed free in stands and private businesses throughout San Diego County. Averaging 90,000 copies per issue, we have one of the largest circulations of any alternative weekly publication in the nation that's published every Thursday.
Noted for our literary style of journalism and coverage of the arts, the Reader is recognized as a pioneer among alternative weeklies for both its creative nonfiction and its commercial strategy, using ad revenue to establish the practice of widespread free circulation, a cornerstone of today's alternative papers.
