Whenever i take my used appliances and water heaters to Schulmans they pay me the tin price but there is always an adjustment to what they pay me. They have told me it is because there could be sediment in the water heaters and some of the dishwashers are plastic ( they still have motors with copper in them). While dumping my load in the yard I ask the yardman how much my adjustment will be, but he cannot tell me. But when I drive off to the scales he radios information to the office where they decide on my adjustment. The adjustment is not based on weight but rather someones opinion. They do not ADD anything when I have stainless steel dishwashers or I don't clean the copper and brass fitting off some things, but they always adjust downward with no explanation of how they arrive at the amount. I have been to many scrapyards and they are the only ones that do this. The last time I was there I got a much bigger adjustment than usual. This put their per pound price about $.01 lower...
