Sofia Ruiz-Castañeda, M.D., is primary care physician at Baptist Health Primary Care | FIU. She specializes in preventative medicine and lifestyle medicine, and her clinical interests include diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity and alcohol and substance use disorders. In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Ruiz-Castañeda serves as an assistant professor of medical education at Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. Dr. Ruiz-Castañeda earned her medical degree at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Illinois, and completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Texas at Austin. Committed to providing personalized care, Dr. Ruiz-Castañeda spends time with her patients and focuses on a comprehensive physical exam. She acts as a health coach, guiding her patients through health and sickness, celebrating the wins and working together to get through the tough times. Dr. Ruiz-Castañeda is fluent in English and Spanish. During her free time, she enjoys cooking, hiking, swimming and spending time with her family.
