About us

Sri O. Rao, MD, grew up in Columbia, South Carolina, and received his undergraduate degree from the University of South Carolina in Columbia. He received his medical degree from St. George's University School of Medicine in St. George, Grenada, and completed his residency in pediatrics at Long Island College Hospital/Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City. He then completed a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at the University of California San Diego/Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego. He completed a senior interventional fellowship in advanced adult congenital and pediatric cardiac interventions at the University of California San Francisco.

Dr. Rao is experienced in the care of all age groups with congenital heart disease and partners with adult cardiologists to co-manage patients with congenital heart disease locally in Columbia. He is a founder and board member of a global organization that provides assistance to congenital cardiac programs in developing countries. He has volunteered in over 20 countries in establishing cardiac programs and in expanding existing ones. Rao has been an invited speaker to national and international cardiology conferences in the fields of cardiac program development, advanced cardiac catheterization techniques, adult congenital heart disease, and international medical charity work. He is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and its sub-board of Pediatric Cardiology. He is also a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions. He is the father of 4 children and is delighted to be back home in the Midlands. Dr. Rao speaks Spanish.
