Steven E. Tager DPM, FAAPSM
About us
Dr. Steven E. Tager is a Podiatrist specializing in lower extremity biomechanics, sports medicine and treatment of the foot. The science of lower biomechanics focuses on the cause of many foot and leg problems we commonly see and experience today. More often than not, in addition to foot pain, nagging knee, hip and low back pain are often caused by a variety of acquired foot problems. A lower extremity biomechanical analysis can often uncover the cause of many of these problems. Armed with that information, functional restoration can often be achieved without surgery.
Bunions, hammertoes, heel spurs, neuromas, Achilles tendonitis and plantar fasciitis are only a few of the common symptoms produced by a repetitive pathomechanical force to a body part over a period of time. Extrinsic factors such as activity, body weight, age, etc., all play a role in the development of these deformities. As an example, low back pain while standing or walking on cement floors, are common symptoms which can be attributed to faulty foot function. This is a very common structural abnormality, often reversed by treating the underlying pathomechanical force producing the symptoms. Timing of treatment is very important. Delaying necessary treatment often prevents advancing deformity often leading to surgical intervention.
Dr. Tager has recently relocated his office to Cupertino and is pleased to announce he is limiting his practice to lower extremity biomechanics, podiatric medicine and sports medicine. His treatment objective; determine the underlying cause. The biomechanical skills he's acquired, gives him the knowledge and potential to reverse the abnormal pathomechanical forces on the foot and leg to obtain the best possible functional results.
Dr. Tager is board certified with over 40 years of experience in lower extremity biomechanics, foot surgery and sports medicine. In his quest to correct and control abnormal foot function, he was awarded two patents. The first, in 1981 and again in 2006 for a unique, serial orthopedic wedge system. This patented device, when used appropriately, can compensate for a variety of structural foot abnormalities, both inherited and acquired that are known to cause many of the common foot and leg conditions seen today.
