The motto at Sustain Community Acupuncture is “healing for all, naturally.” This acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine practice sits right on the Hillcrest-North Park border and the brown brick façade can be easily missed if you are zooming down University. Inside, however, is a soothing environment of tranquility. Dave McKinnon, one of the founders of Sustain Community Acupuncture, utilizes the idea of group healing and places nearly all his patients in a group room so that they can help each other relax during acupuncture sessions. “In the group lounge you get more of a communal sense of healing,” describes McKinnon. This unique lounge is a long chamber filled with oversized chairs covered in blankets. The space is as cool and dark as possible in order to give therapy patients a feeling as though they are in the womb. Private rooms are available for those who are modest or wish to go the route of massage, which comes in both traditional Swedish and deep tissue options. $40 is the average price you will pay of a number of services, making the various forms of therapy a smart option for those who are not looking to go broke as they find peace of mind. Every one deserves a chance to stretch out and relax every once in a while. Sustain Community Acupuncture gives patients a healthy option for chilling out, taking a deep breath, and helping each other gain moments true bliss. Once you walk through the door, you will have a hard time leaving.
