About us

My Name is Bill 'Sy' Syverson. I’m a Licensed, Bonded & Insured, Journeyman Plumber. I’ve been working in the industry for 30+ years. My father and my Grandfather before him were in the construction trades. In my family, when you got out of school, you picked up your tools and went to work and that’s what I’ve done . I started Sy’s Plumbing, to pay homage to my dad, Sy, (the original Sy in Sy’s plumbing.) After decades of working for the Union and various large-overhead plumbing shops, I got tired of seeing some clients actually cry when I delivered price quotes for work that they needed done. It's 2009; People shouldn’t have to choose between plumbing that works and groceries or medicine. I felt there had to be a better way. I wanted to feel good about myself, the work I’d done and feel proud of my accomplishments at the end of the day. I figured if I could run a small crew and work out of my home, I could keep costs down and provide excellent service at a real value. Maybe then I really could help people… In this case it’s true: Sy’s does matter. Our low overhead really does mean savings for our customers. Now, on the rare occasion that I see tears, they’re generally tears of joy because I delivered. I gave the client a bid that they could afford. At the end of the day, I can feel good because I did my job well and I'm proud of that. I’ve got no beef with the Unions or the big companies, heck everyone deserves to make a living… I learned an awful lot about construction from these people. I received extensive training through the union that I probably wouldn’t have been able to get any other way. But I’m also at a place in my life where my responsibility to myself is more about Karma and honesty and “Do onto others,” than it is about driving a fancy new car. You'll know it's me when you see the really friendly dog and the ugly yellow Van. I know how tough it is out there, the economy is really fragile right now and that is scary. Retirement, once so far in the future that it wasn’t real, well it is a real concern for me now too… I’m looking ahead to my future and how I’d like to be treated, and I’m just trying to do the right thing.I’ve got a roof over my head and a toilet that flushes. Some people aren’t that fortunate, so I do what I can.. I know that People work hard for their money; I work really hard for mine, and I refuse to jack-up an estimate or do unnecessary repairs. I won’t sell someone services or equipment that they don’t need. I was raised right. Taught to respect my elders and treat people fairly and I respect my clients. Honesty, Integrity and Respect; that is what business used to be about, and that’s what Sy’s Plumbing is about. I really try to take care of my customers. I also offer a 10% discount for all seniors . Sy’s plumbing is also in the unusual position of being able to do “Value Added” work. Why should someone have to call, schedule and pay 3 different companies to get a single job completed? I can easily do a little drywall, replace a little rotten subflooring, and I can usually get it done faster and for less money than if my clients had to go the other route. I know that we can do it all. Of course if it’s out of our area of expertise, or if we’ve already committed to another large job or two, we’ve also got a couple of great general construction contractors that we work with on a regular basis. We can easily get them involved if and when we need to.. Another great thing about Sy’s Plumbing is that 99% of the time, the person that bids the job is the same person that shows up to do the job. (& a lot of the time, that person will be me!) I was talking to a friend of mine and she told me that she likes her husband to be there when a contractor comes to the house to work and that it frustrates her when a company sends a different guy every time. She suggested that “it’d be nice if the same person showed up each time.” We like the continuity of having one worker see the job through to completion. Then there is only One person to call to arrange it, to procure the parts and make alterations to the plans if needed. That same guy will actually do the job. Then, if something should go wrong, there is only one person to talk to, to resolve it. Our employees have the right experience and I trust them to make their own judgment calls. They don’t have to call me to get the okay to make things right. Small does have its advantages. A big bonus is that you only have to explain your issue once. My dad, Sy, is still alive and frankly, he’d have my hide if I ran the business that bears his name, any other way. I do Septic Repairs and Sump Pump Repairs.
