About us

Tom L. Finkelstein, MD, MPH, is an internal medicine physician in the Alzheimer’s and Memory Disorders Program and an assistant professor in the Department of Neurology at Barrow Neurological Institute. He holds board certifications in both internal medicine and hospice and palliative medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, and he is board-eligible in geriatric medicine.

Dr. Finkelstein’s expertise includes the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and other memory disorders. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Geriatrics Society, the American College of Physicians, and the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

Dr. Finkelstein earned his medical degree from Tel Aviv University in Israel. He completed his internal medicine residency, followed by fellowships in hospice and palliative medicine and geriatric medicine, at the University of Arizona in Tucson. He also holds a Master of Public Health with a concentration in epidemiology from the University of Arizona.

Dr. Finkelstein’s research interests include early intervention strategies for geriatric syndromes, such as frailty, polypharmacy, and cognitive impairment, with a particular emphasis on memory disorders and dementia. He is also interested in the role of integrative medicine—including evidence-based nutrition and mind-body therapies—in enhancing quality of life and functional outcomes in older adults. In addition, Dr. Finkelstein is engaged in medical education and research aimed at improving serious illness communication, advanced care planning, and care-partner support. As a clinical educator, Dr. Finkelstein enjoys developing curricula and teaching trainees core concepts in geriatrics and palliative medicine.
