We do not recommend Turnpike Acres!!

With heating fuel approaching $4+ a gallon, my wife and I decided we needed to purchase a pellet stove. We visited about a half dozen dealers in our area, and settled on Turnpike Acres. We had heard some good praise about them and felt very comfortable buying a stove there. This turned out to be a big mistake.

We paid in full for a stove and 3 tons of pellets in Aug 08. We were told the stove would arrive no later than the end of Oct 08, just in time for heating season. Well Oct, Nov, Dec and most of Jan came and went, and no stove. We placed many phone calls, only getting an answering machine and no return calls. Visited the shop at least once every 2 weeks after promise date and got the same story, the manufacturer was having problems and you should check back in 2 weeks. Finally, we decided to confront the owner and demand either our stove or our money back, low and behold he magically had our stove. The only thing, it was not the trim level we had ordered. At this point, we just wanted a stove so we settled on a lesser model, but insisted he refund the difference in price. We took delivery of the stove and brought home 15 bags of pellets. This was the amount of pellets he allowed us, saying he would have another delivery the next week. Well, we go back the following week to get more pellets and there is a big sign out front saying Out of Pellets. I went inside and got a song and dance about supply and demand, yadda yadda yadda. Long story short we ended up going to another store to get our supply for the week. As we stand now this guy owes us 135 bags.

To sumorize, 3 months late in delivery, terrible customer communication, and even though we were promised a supply of pellets he does not have them.

Searching for a pellet stove this winter this place was recommended to us. Regrettably we will not be recommending it to anyone ourselves.

At the point of purchase we dealt directly with the owner and his son, both were very nice and patiently answered every question we had.

Our order, in excess of $2000, was placed in June & we were told that the stove would arrive as early as August, no later than September.

It is now the first week in November and still no stove.

Each time WE CALLED we were told the shipment would arrives in 2 weeks.

The last time WE CALLED we spoke with the the owner who told us that the delay was only in the style/finish we had ordered, the rest were available.

Okay, but why do WE have to keep calling every time to find out what is going on? Why has it taken this long to make us aware of this? why aren't they calling the customers to keep them informed?

I can understand that manufacturing issues can be out of their hands but the lack of communication, the lack of follow up customer care/service is what aggravates us the most and why we can not recommend them.
