Dr. John Geremia, O.D.
Dr. John Geremia likes people more than he likes bacteria.

That’s why, after getting his degree in microbiology from the University of Maryland in College Park, he decided to get an advanced degree in a health care profession. After researching his options, he chose optometry as his focus.

He received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia, where he was inducted into the Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society and graduated in the top 5% of his class.

From there, he became an optometrist and captain for the U.S. Army, helping to run an optometry clinic at Dewitt Army Community Hospital in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. In this role, he received an Army Commendation Medal as the chief of optometry. For the next six years, he worked at several vision centers – including his own private practice in Fairfax, Va. – before arriving in 1999 at United Optical and, later, EyeFit in Salisbury.

Dr. Geremia is happy with the decision he made more than 20 years ago. “My favorite thing about being an optometrist is that many times, I can give my patients instant gratification,” he says. “I can’t think of many other health professions that offer such quick results.”

Outside of the examination room, Dr. Geremia likes to play strategy-based computer games and read books on theology and spirituality.
