About us
Dr. Pirkle received his undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia in Athens, and then his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. His residency was completed at the UNC health sciences campus in Asheville, NC at Mission Hospital and has board certification from the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Pirkle has been at Oconee Memorial since 2007 with a “brief” 5 year interlude to begin a women’s services department at Hospital Loma de Luz on the northern coast of Honduras starting in 2010. Special interest include minimally invasive surgery, pelvic floor dysfunction, and female continence treatment.
When he is not working, his interest lie in faith, family, and medicine in the developing world. “The 7 years that I spent between Honduras and Zimbabwe have shaped my view of my faith, myself, and others in ways that are incalculable. It truly has changed who I am.” Also, he is especially interested in the interface between religious faith and science, specifically whether knowledge of physics and biology can enhance ones faith. When he is not pondering his place in the universe, he enjoys gardening, working with power tools of any kind and a little college football.
