Since 1868, the Bauman family has established a history of offering prices that are typically 50-60% below those of other jewelry stores and department stores while providing its customers with honest, superior service. Voted by numerous publications as the area’s Best Fine Jewelry Store, Walter Bauman Jewelers’ success follows a long history. The Bauman Family’s legacy in the jewelry industry did not start with the current owners, Walter R. Bauman and Russell Bauman, but instead, with their great-great grandfather who started a wholesale jewelry and watch business in Pittsburgh in 1868. For two generations, the Bauman’s learned about the wholesale jewelry market and focused on bringing the best service, quality, and prices to their customers. In the 1960s, Walter O. Bauman and his wife, Rita, settled in West Orange, New Jersey. They loved the community and decided to make the jump from wholesale to retail so they could spend their days in West Orange and serve their friends and neighbors. They were able to bring the lessons from the wholesale industry and offer their clients the same service, quality, and prices. As the community grew, so did the popularity of Walter Bauman Jewelers, and the store was soon known as the best place to buy fine jewelry and giftware. On many mornings, there would be a line of customers waiting for the doors to be unlocked so they could buy jewelry at “Beautiful Bauman Prices”. Soon Walter and Rita’s children, Edward, Margery, and Freddie, would take over the daily operations at Walter Bauman Jewelers. During their tenure, Walter Bauman Jewelers expanded its Gold and Estate Buying division. Much of the company’s current success can be attributed to those prior generations, whose passion for craftsmanship and love for exquisite jewelry was passed down for over 150 years.
