Myofascial Release

This innovative form of bodywork is considered to be the ultimate in mind/body therapy. It is a safe and gentle whole-body approach that consistently produces results that last. Fascia is a tough connective tissue that surrounds and supports every nerve, blood vessel, muscle, bone and organ in our body. It is a three dimensional web or netting that runs throughout the body uninterrupted from head to toe. Fascia secretes a fluid called serous fluid which helps to keep our muscles and organs viscous in order to glide over each other more efficiently through movement. This tissue also has a tensile strength of up to 1500 lbs. per square inch. This fascial matrix which holds us together is the very fiber of our being. When we experience trauma i.e., auto accidents, sporting injuries, surgical procedures, repetitive stress injuries, even poor posture from improper body mechanics while at work will create scar tissue. This tissue can become bound and knotted applying excessive pressure on our vital structures causing pain and/or limiting our movement. Internal stressors such as mental and/or emotional issues also play a major role in the constriction of organ and fascial tissues. Most people with myofascial pain syndrome will go undiagnosed, because the standard tests such as x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans electromyography, etc., do not show these fascial restrictions.

The Treatment

The John F. Barnes’ Myofascial Release Approach consists of the slow and gentle application of sustained pressure into the fascial restrictions. This essential “time element” has to do with the viscous flow and the piezoelectric phenomenon: a low load (gentle pressure) applied slowly will allow a viscoelastic medium (fascia) to elongate. This is done in the safety of your own private studio, in a supportive nurturing environment. It can be done in combination with other modalities or by itself.

Myofascial Unwinding

Myofascial Release and Unwinding go hand-in-hand. They are the most profound and deepest form of healing that you will ever experience. The unwinding process allows the body to release holding/bracing patterns of the mind/body matrix. During traumatic experiences the subconscious develops a protective blue print that becomes imprinted into the fascial system (the connection between the mind/body complex). These are the very moments that are frozen in time, that become the holding patterns which have frustrated therapists from finding a speedy resolution to their clients/patients pain and dysfunction. Traditional means of therapy are just not enough. Through the unwinding process the therapist is able to unlock these deep seated emotional issues that seem to hold back the healing process. Because we as humans are unique just like the experiences we have, so to are the emotions we feel in response to those experiences. Therefore each unwinding session is unique for everybody, every time. No two sessions are alike, nor can they be duplicated. The unwinding process is truly an authentic form of healing, capable of clearing past traumas from our body and mind.
